Gender in UO Dark Ages

When creating your character in UO Dark Ages you choose between Male and Female. This choice is primarily cosmetic but does have a few practical differences that are worth understanding before you commit.

Choosing Your Gender

Gender is selected during character creation. On UO Dark Ages your gender affects your character's appearance, the clothing and armor available to you, and a small number of game mechanics. It does not affect your base skills, stats, or overall combat effectiveness.

Practical Differences

Clothing and Armor

  • Female characters can wear both male and female clothing and armor pieces.
  • Male characters can only wear male-designated clothing and armor.
  • This gives female characters a wider selection of cosmetic options overall.
  • Certain armor pieces such as female leather skirts are restricted to female characters only.

Combat Mechanics

  • Certain creatures in Ultima Online lore deal increased damage to male characters. On Dark Ages, consult the staff or forums for any custom adjustments to these mechanics.
  • The Unicorn — a tameable mount — can only be ridden by female characters.
  • The Ki-Rin — a tameable mount — can only be ridden by male characters.
